Brexit – What now?
Since the 31st of January 2020, UK is no longer a Member State of European Union. As such, UK producers are now third country producers in the wording of WEEE Directive.

This means that all UK companies exporting electric and electronic equipment (EEE) into an EU country, like Portugal, have to obey the following rules:

  • If the export is to a local distributor, the local distributor has to handle with all the burdens of registering, hiring a scheme to handle the WEEE and reporting to the local entities. The UK company can no longer do that an its local compliance is at distributor´s hands.

  • If the exporting is to end-users in Portugal (e.g. through online sales, as most of the sales are now) then the UK exporter has to be locally registered through an AR - Authorised Representative, and have a scheme to take care of the WEEE placed in the market.

Portugal AR, is a specialized compliance company, offering a full set of services, covering from the mandatory authorized representative service up to a complete a solution covering collective schemes management, report to all entities and free consultor services for local Extended Producer Responsibility's obligations.
